Praying for the World
It was great to see many of you at Cru last Tuesday to be a part of the Traveling Team's presentation. They cast an incredible vision for global missions, and reaching the world for Christ, calling us to action to be either "Goers" or "Senders." We talk all the time at Cru about going, and spreading your faith, but something of equal importance is sending, specifically in terms of prayer. The power of prayer is immense, and experiencing God through prayer is a constant life-giving experience. As followers of Christ we are called to make disciples of all nations, to be His witnesses, and to be a light in this world. One way in which we can make that a reality is through prayer. Asking God for direction and guidance, asking Him to send disciples to unreached parts of the world, and asking Him to bring people into relationship with Him.
Ephesians 6:18 reads, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." We are called to be in prayer with all sorts of requests, and to ALWAYS be praying for the Lord's people. So yes, be praying for one another as the Lord's people, but also be praying that our family would grow. That the number of people who know God would multiply and expand- that there would be so many more people to be praying for. There is something like 7 billion people on this planet, and so many of them have not heard the gospel, don't know who Jesus is, and are living in the dark. We need to be praying that they would be reached, partnering with those who will Go, and being a part of the work that God is doing in people's lives. We should desire the things that God desires for the world, and we can express that desire to Him through prayer. It is powerful.
If the Lord places it on your heart to be praying for specific areas or peoples of the world, or if you just don't know where to start, a cool resource to use is Operation World. They have prayer guides, along with information on every region and country, including data on unreached people groups and other interesting statistics.
Revelation 7: 9-10
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
