Clothe Yourselves With Compassion

Clothe Yourselves with Compassion

Yesterday at our weekly meeting, we launched our Love Puerto Rico initiative. In essence it is an equipment drive sponsored by Cru and a number of Christian groups and local churches, to gather goods to send to Puerto Rico following the devastating hurricanes. Puerto Rico is still in relief mode, and we as a UConn community can play a role in relieving those suffering and struggling.

Colossians 3:12 reads, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Compassion doesn't always come naturally or easily, but as a community we are looking for ways to clothe ourselves with it. The last few weeks at Cru we have been talking about Jesus going the distance for people- He shows us compassion and love, and sacrificially served. Leadership in Cru has been spending a lot of time in prayer and at work to determine our response to the recent hurricanes and disasters, and Jesus' example of "Going the Distance" and showing compassion is the driver for these efforts.  It isn't always easy, but sacrificially showing compassion is what Jesus did for us, and it is what we are called to do for others.
We want you to be a part of it. You can get all sorts of information on the Facebook and Instagram pages that have been set up specially for this drive. Through checking it out, sharing, and working your social media magic, you can help get the word out and make a difference.

Thank you for joining with us, and trusting God to work through our efforts.

Ephesians 5:1-2
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

In Christ,
