Flourishing Through Surrender

As we continue our look at gospel fluency, last night we looked at what it means to live the Christian life in the power of the Holy Spirit.  The gospel is the good news of God’s redemption of sinful people through the work of Christ on the cross.  The goodness of the gospel doesn’t end there though, it also has good news for how we actually live the Christian life.

God does not save from sin and death and then leave us to our own devices, rather, He provides abundently for us by giving the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides in the life of every follower of Jesus and when we surrender moment by moment control of our lives to Him, we can and will flourish in living the Christian life.

Here are some of the passages of scripture we looked at last night to help give a glimpse into living the Christian life through the indwelling presence and power of the Holy Spirit:

John 14:16 Counselor to be with you forever

14:26 Will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.

1 Corinthians 2:12 We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given to us.

Galatians 3:3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Galatians 5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature...25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit

The three exhortations from the message were:

Confess, Command & Promise

  • 1 John 1:9
  • Ephesians 5:18
  • 1 John 5:14-15
